Haiku R1 Alpha4 status update -- 10/29/2012 -- Feature Freeze Nov 2nd

Good morning folks,

I just wanted to send out a quick status update on how the R1A4 release
is going.

The merge tracking page shows that we are almost caught up to mainline
with only
a few recent commits waiting review by Ryan or myself.

https://dev.haiku-os.org/wiki/R1/Alpha4/MergeTracking

I updated the release status page as per the recent announcements:

https://dev.haiku-os.org/wiki/R1/Alpha4/StatusAndCoordination

No one has pushed back on the November 12th date, so it is definitely
final.

As per the timeline, no new features will be picked for the R1A4 branch
as of
Nov 2nd unless there is a *GOOD* reason.

There are a few R1A4 bugs open, nothing too serious though.
I plan on trying to reduce the size of the R1A4 image sometime this
week.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! (cough Ryan
cough)

Thanks!

Hi, Alex!

I'm concerned with the fact that, to date, the Brazilian Portuguese translation (pt_BR) does not appear in the nightly build.

Since hrev44625 the translation is done but seems to have been removed from the builds. In the current build, hrev44646, the problem remains.

Will we ever see this complete translation before the launch of R1A4?

I checked hrev44625, it doesn't seem to make any localization changes
(nor
do any commits close to hrev44625)

Where did you get hrev44625 from?

Anyway, if we can figure out a solution, it will be cherry-picked
before
R1A4. (re-adding a localization doesn't count as a new feature :D)

Hi,

The translations are now in the repository. In the coming days you
will probably get some new untranslated strings, so keep an eye on
them. In two days, I'd say the build of Tuesday, you will be able to
try out the new translations. Please test them and report back on
whether it works.

The issue is actually that for some reason Pootle created the files in
lower case, so pt_br.catkeys instead of pt_BR.catkeys. If you see this
happening again, let me know, and I will try to fix it for you ,so
that your translations will keep getting into the repository.

Niels, Humdinger,
in this hrevr1alpha4-44625 version of nightly images, I haven't
seen our translation, nor the few words which have been translated and
shown in previous images.
Can you tell me what's happening?
Is it possible to see the full translation in Alpha 4 "final" version?
The translations are still there. It is a problem with finding them.
Please forward this issue to haiku-development.

Ok, Alex, but we have an community beggining and anxious to see Haiku "speaking Portuguese".
We worked hard to see this "feature" before the launch of Alpha 4. It would be disappointing not happen.

Regards,
Adriano

Hi Alex,

We tested the translations here at BeGeistert and it turned out they were
not actually working properly. We have fixed [1] that behavior now and it
should whenever the fix is pulled into the alpha 4 branch.

Hi, all!

Using the hrev44699 version of nightly builds, I've noticed that Haiku core uses only the European Portuguese translation (that is incomplete)
instead of Brazilian Portuguese translation. Is it the language_COUNTRY problem yet?

Adriano
